To close an application and remove it from the screen you need to swipe toward the center of the screen from any edge.

The application will be automatically sent on the next home screen, dubbed Open Applications, which acts as a Task Manager.

All applications 'closed' this way can be found on the Open Applications pane, so you can continue working with them when you need them. While on this home screen tap and hold your finger to close all or any of the applications that are still running in the background.

How to Take Screenshots on Nokia N9

Recently launched on the market, Nokia N9 comes with a brand new operating system based on Linux, MeeGo.

Even though it took Google quite a long time to make it possible for basic users to take screenshots on their Android devices, it appears that Nokia N9 received this feature at launch.

Obviously, the feature does not come embedded in the phone, as part of the MeeGo's software, instead you will need to install a third-party application that will enable this feature.

The good news is that you won't need to search for this application on shady app stores, instead Nokia is offering it via its Ovi Store, free of charge.

If you own a Nokia N9 open the store application and search for ScreenshotMee. Developed by Ionascu, the application is free for download and use.

While other similar apps for Nokia N9 allow you to take screenshots using a timer, ScreenshotMee only requires you to cover the display of the phone to be able to take a screenshot.

In fact, it's quite alright if you just cover the light sensor placed just above the display with your hand, instead of placing your hand on the whole display.

As soon as the screenshot is taken you can save the image and click on the “Make new” option to take another snapshot.

It appears that the developer of the application offers great support, as the application is still in beta and a work in progress.

The latest 0.3.3 version preserves the aspect of the screenshots taken and allows users to rotate the snapshot before saving it.

With ScreenshotMee you won't have to worry about size, as the latest version offers a reduced package size. In addition, support for landscape mode is included as well.

Nokia N9 Tips and Tricks (II)

It's been almost a month since Nokia N9 hit shelves and the excitement built around the MeeGo device brings more fans to the Finnish company.

Nokia created almost the perfect symbiosis between a smartphone and a mobile operating system. The way a user interacts with the N9 is simply fabulous, different from anything that's been thrown at users in the last 3-4 years.

Obviously, there are some similarities in the fact that the phone uses technologies embedded in other mobile platforms, but the way they've been integrated is unique and innovative.

We will continue our previous article about Nokia N9's tweaks, because we discover something new every day we spend with the MeeGo-based smartphone.

For those unfamiliar with the phone's layout, the N9 only features three external buttons: two volume keys and a lock/unlock key.

The latter is used to unlock the phone's display everytime you want to use. However, instead of clicking the unlock button on the left side of the phone, simply tap the screen twice and the screen will be unlocked.

If double tapping on the screen does not unlock it, you need to enable this option by going to Settings / Device / Display and use the toggle for the specific feature.

Another interesting tweak is the Quick menu, which provides users the option to quickly access: Phone, Messages, Camera and Browser.

To bring up the Quick menu simply swipe up about 1/3 from the bottom edge of the screen and then slowly swipe down until the shortcuts appears at the base of the screen.

Nokia N9 is a great notifier as the phone displays on the screen all events missed by owners, including missed calls, emails, Facebook or Twitter mentions and more.

A special icon will be displayed on the screen when you have missed a call, or when you have new email. As soon as you unlock the screen double-tapping the “event” will be shown at the base of the screen. Simply tap and hold on the “event” and swipe to the right to get directly to the Phone feature, email Inbox or Facebook account.
